Avalanche Lake is counted as one of the star attractions and makes the perfect setting for a family, it is a picturesque location situated at about 25 kilometers from Ooty.
Nilgiri Mountain Railway
The Nilgiri Mountain Railway built by the British in 1908 is a World Heritage Site. It’s a 46-kilometre beautiful toy train journey that starts from Mettupalayam and goes through tunnels, curves, bridges and beautiful scenery to reach Ooty in five hours. From 300 feet to 7200 feet, the Ooty toy train is definitely a ride to cherish.
Ooty Botanical Garden, spread over a huge area of 22 hectares and with more than 650 species of flowers and trees, is a horticulturist’s delight.
Doddabetta Peak at an altitude of 8,606 feet is the highest point of South India. Located 10 kilometres from Ooty, this peak is a huge crowd puller. The view of Nilgiris from here is breathtaking. Look through the telescope atop the mountain for more spectacular panoramic vistas.
Dolphin’s Nose is a unique rock formation and its peak resembles a dolphin’s nose from where it gets its name. The drive up to Dolphin’s Nose is quite spectacular givess wonderful view of tea plantations on the way and from the peak.
The towering pine trees are arranged in a small downhill area and the forest makes a delightful scenic view and offers an atmosphere of peace. It has been featured in a number of popular Hindi movies.
Dropping from a height of about 250 feet, the stunning Catherine Falls is a double-cascaded waterfall The drive up to the falls is breathtaking and filled with scenic views.
Emerald dam which is a lovely lake and it has a scenic view and the view is mesmerizing. The water is emerald in colour, so clear and shimmers in the bright sun. It is surrounded by the Nilgiri hills all around, the reflection of which you can see in the translucent water. It’s just beautiful!
6th Mile, as the name suggests, is located 6 miles from the Ooty city centre. Also known as Shooting Spot, it offers scenic views replete with thick green forests and has been featured in many Indian movies.
Ooty Lake is a popular destination for picnicking, paddle boating and enjoying Ooty leisurely. Built in 1825, it is a 2.5-kilometre long lake meandering through the scenic beauty of the Nilgiris.
